Hi my name is Rachel Funk, I am the owner and head groomer at Funky Fresh Grooming.  I have been professionally working with animals since 2019 Originally getting my professional start as an equine show groom. I traveled up and down the east coast caring and prepping the horses for competition. Although I enjoyed my work I decided in 2022 that I wanted to take a step back from the professional equine industry. My goal was to find another profession and still enjoy horses as a hobby.

                After leaving the horse industry I knew I still wanted to work with animals, so I began the search. A few weeks later I was hired as a dog bather at a shop in Brick NJ. Never having worked in the dog grooming industry I was taught all the basics of bathing. I learned how to properly manage different coat types, behavioral challenges, shampoos and there uses as well as nail care. I really gained my confidence in handling all types of pups and their different needs. Later I was promoted to bathing manager where I ran the bathing Department, took on more difficult dogs that just needed some extra time and love, and made sure they day ran as smooth as possible.

                 Although I loved my time as the bathing manager I felt like I was missing something, I had more to give and to learn. I loved watching my coworkers give all the dogs beautiful makeovers, I decided that I wanted to go to grooming school. I later completed and received my professional dog grooming certificate with the New Jersey Dog grooming School in Hamilton NJ and have since been working as a full-time groomer.

                 My favorite part about grooming is all the different pups I have met along the way. I take so much pride in getting to know each individual pup and making them look and feel their best. Since grooming school, I have worked on over 100 different types of dogs all with different coats, temperaments, and needs. 

                  While working in a busy salon I noticed a few things, not every dog thrived in a salon environment, busy adults were not always able to come during business hours, and some clients had a hard time getting their pets the salon due to mobility or transportation issues. I really started to think about how I can help makes those issues no issue at all, so that's when I came up with the idea to start house call grooming. By coming to your home, I can work individually with each dog with zero interruptions in a calm personalized environment. Senior dogs, anxious dogs, or dogs that need a little extra time can now thrive during their appointment. Busy adults or stay at home moms or dads can get their dogs groomed without the hassle of trying to make it to the appointment. People who don't have easy availability to transportation or have a disability which creates getting to a physical appointment for their dog hard can now have easy access to a groomer. My goal was to create a stress-free situation for both dogs and their humans; this is how Funky fresh grooming was born!
